The highly esteemed game company Atari announced a partnership with award-winning, hip-hop legend RZA. This partnership will be used as a way to make new music based on and inspired by the sounds of the Atari games we have come to love.
“We are thrilled to partner with RZA, one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time,” said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari. “RZA is a multi-talented artist and soundtrack virtuoso and we cannot wait to hear the new tracks he creates based on Atari’s iconic video game sounds and music.”
For those who don’t know, RZA is a producer, rapper, and an original member of the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA paved the way for artists to get more creative with their sound. It’s only natural RZA and Atari work together as Atari is hailed as the pioneer of video games with classics such as Asteroids, Centipede, and Pong. This collaboration will actually mark the second time that these two legends mixed together. Back in 2006, RZA lent his voice for the Atari title, “Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure”.
“I’m so excited to work on these iconic games to deliver what I believe will be one of my best albums,” said RZA. “I am going to invite some of my friends to join me and it will be Game On with the first beat!”
In addition to the new album that is currently being produced, RZA and Atari will be leading towards other multi-media projects based on Atari games. RZA will be the head producer of the new album and Fred Chesnais and Stephen Belafonte will be executive producers for Atari. Production on the new album will start soon and more details will be shared at a later time.
