Last year Ryan Reynolds, Tim Miller, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick brought Rob Liefeld’s Merc with a mouth, Deadpool, to life on the bigscreen. Deadpool was not only a massive hit at the box office but also with movie goers and fans alike. Naturally a sequel was green-lit when 20th Century Fox saw just how successful the film was.

Tim Miller backed out of the director’s chair when he, Ryan Reynolds, and the writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had creative differences for Deadpool 2. Some of these creative differences were attributed to tone, story, direction and casting. Atomic Blonde and John Wick director David Leitch was shortly announced to be replacing Miller for the sequel.

Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to social media, which is one of the many reasons Deadpool was so special and impactful. In March 2017 Reynolds took to Instagram and announced the casting of Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, a mutant, mercenary and member of the X-Force. This was the beginning of the social media campaign for Deadpool 2.

In a meta, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tribute post credits scene in Deadpool, iconic X-Men character Cable was promised for the sequel. Cable is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and a clone of Jean Grey, Madelyn Pryor. He is from the future and is infected with a techno-organic virus. In April, none other than Josh Brolin (Sicario, No Country For Old Men) was cast as the time traveling lieutenant of the X-Force. Prior to being cast as Cable in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe, he is also simultaneously playing Thanos in Marvel’s MCU. Josh Brolin’s casting in Deadpool 2 has taken fans by storm.

Cameras began rolling for Deadpool 2 this summer in June. Other than the news of the casting of Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin, not much was known of the highly anticipated sequel. In classic Ryan Reynolds fashion, Reynolds has now unveiled the first looks of Domino and Cable in full garb.

The first image of Domino embraces Zazie Beetz in her own natural beauty. Domino is originally portrayed as being pale with a black spot around her left eye, looking much like a “domino.” This new take on the character embraces Zazie’s natural hair but also displays a patch of vitiligo around her left eye. Domino is laying on Deadpool’s suit, guns and all, purposed as a rug, paying tribute to the original Deadpool suit reveal from the first film.

In two reveal images of Cable we get to see a close look at the design of the character but also a hint of his personality. In a close up image we see scarring over his right human eye and his glowing robotic left eye as he is shushing with a grin. In the second image we see it all. Cable is armed to the teeth with a large weapon in hand, ammunition and explosives. He is dressed prepared for war. We get an even closer look at Cable’s cybernetic left arm and the techno-organic infection spreading up his neck. While not much is known about the story of Deadpool 2, it is important to note that the teddy bear tied to his belt may offer a clue to the film’s plot. The bear suggests Cable’s adopted daughter Hope Summers may have a great deal to do with Cable’s motives in the sequel; protecting his daughter.

Deadpool 2 will be hitting theaters June 1, 2018.
