After watching Captain America: Civil War I was left thinking to myself which comic book characters or stories I would like to see on the big screen. Between Marvel, DC and other publishers these are the ones that I would like see come to fruition.
Yes, he’s getting his own Spider-Man: Homecoming movie as well was featured in Captain America: Civil War, but there are particular story lines I would like revisited. Specifically the symbiote story line when Spider-Man struggles controling the black alien costume , which of course leads to one his most iconic foes in Venom. This could then possibly eventually lead the psychotic killer Carnage, which would really put a serious tone to the webcrawler on film.
After this year’s successful Deadpool movie, many fans were calling for an X-Force movie. Although Deadpool did not join X-Force until much later, I cannot argue against more Deadpool. Headlined by their leader Cable, Cannonball, Boom-Boom, Domino, Feral and Shatterstar, this feature would bring new characters that non-comic book followers have little information on showed that it can work well with Guardians of Galaxy. This caused fresh story lines but also allowed you to develop a character relationship from scratch with the heroes.
The X-Men series have been around in the movies for a while now, but I would like to have a movie based on some of the X-Men characters who aren’t really spotlighted. X-Factor would do just that as it consists of former X-men. They would have a huge pool of casts they could choose from including Beast, Archangel, Havok, plus even some of the X-Men adversaries such as Sabretooth and Mystique. Could also introduce to lesser known characters like Siryn, Longshot and Multiple Man.
Although currently right now there is a TV show based on the Emerald Archer, I would like to see a version that is not so campy and much darker. Green Arrow is a fantastic character who also has great foes like Merlyn and Deathstroke. Seeing Deathstroke would be pretty amazing considering Deadpool’s character was made to counteract him. I’ve always been a fan of archery as well and to see a hero without actual super powers and cool gadgets would be fun – basically Batman with a bow and amazing facial hair.
Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey would be the answer to a lot of comic criticism on the lack of female heroes in the spotlight. If done properly I think this movie could connect young women to strong female characters. I mean who wouldn’t want to see a bunch of badass women kicking some butt? They would have a huge character pool to choose from including the likes of Catwoman, Hawkgirl, Huntress, Katana, Batgirl and even Poison Ivy. I think if they could find a way to make it a serious movie and not just about girl power I think the movie could work really well.
Ever since Batman’s sidekick was introduced, he was the center of all the jokes. Between his bright colored costume and fighting side by side by arguably one of the greatest hero creations of all time in Batman it was hard to ever take him seriously. This is where Nightwing would come in as he’s the more mature and independent version of Robin. Dick Grayson sheds the the bright yellow and red colors and a more serious dark blue and black costume. He is no longer overshadowed by Batman. He could also face some great villains such as Deathstroke, Jason Todd/The Hood and the Joker. We could see some great action scenes and combat and it would be nice to see a different side of the Batman Universe. We also wouldn’t have to worry about who we would cast as Batman as he would not be the main focal point.
After watching 1994’s cartoon television series featuring the WildC.A.T.S., I’ve always wanted to see more of them. Particularly Grifter, who was a mix of Deadpool and Wolverine. He had some great lines as well. Having the rest of the cast of WildC.A.T.S. would probably balance out his character and could be DC’s version of trying to combat the X-Men/Guardian of Galaxy team series. It’s probably just a fantasy of mine however as when they tried to relaunch Grifter on his own in 2013 the series did not last too long. Maybe with better vision and writers somebody could pull it off! (Just Keep Zack Snyder away)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
1997’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Sarah Michelle Gellar was immensely popular. A lot of fans were disappointed when the series ended. Dark Horse Comics decided to continue the legacy by continuing the comics right where Season 7 left off. I currently own them and think they are a fantastic read. Although, they’ve already done a cheesy version of Buffy the Vampire slayer starring Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson, who wouldn’t want to see a reboot that is much darker and takes a serious tone. I mean when’s the last good vampire movie you have seen that didn’t involve glittering vampires?
Speaking of reboots – after playing the rebooted Tomb Raider series game and really enjoyed the story telling. I was left thinking to myself that this is exactly the type of Tomb Raider movie I wanted to see when the original came out with Angelina Jolie. Although it seems like my wish will come true and there is one in the works to be coming out apparently in 2017 with rumors saying that Alicia Vikander would star as Lara Croft. Dark Horse Comics has already made comics based of the game series so it will be interesting to see the transition to the big screen.
Image Comics’ Spawn movie is already in the works. I’m really looking forward to this as he’s such an interesting character. 1997’s Spawn movie was really disappointing and left fans wanting more. Hopefully this time around they get the movie right so people can really experience one of Todd McFarlane’s masterpieces.
We’re not going to get any lack of comic book movies in the near future as DC and Marvel already have such a big line up in the works. Some of these movies would probably be very hard to make it work in the movie universe. Fantastic Four is proof that not all comic book movies will pan out no matter how many times they reboot it. However, with the right Director, IP and Producers anything is possible.
