December shapes up to be a month full of updates in video games, holiday spirit, and a new Fate of the Furious movie trailer! Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the direction of the Furious saga, especially after Furious 7 which launched in the spring of 2015.
The Furious Story
Racing fans devotion dates back to the start of Fast and Furious in 2002. Though it didn’t receive the success expected, it still developed a cult following. From there 2 Fast 2 Furious launched, kicking open the doors to gold.
The Furious movies were among the first in long movie series, overhauling the dominance of stand-alone films. After five other movies released, fan number increased exponentially, leading it to smash worldwide box office numbers. Furious 7 sits in 6th place grossing over $1.5 billion dollars worldwide.
The film grossed significantly, even in the wake of Paul Walker‘s death, who tragically died in a car crash. Furious 7 sat in the garage for months allowing actors to grieve. Though Vin Diesel worked some magic, giving his co-star many beautiful send-offs. That includes everything from the final scene of Furious 7 to singing heartfelt songs. Wiz Khalifa’s song “See You Again” made the title track of the movie and the radio stations heard it time and again.
With the immense popularity for Furious 7, Vin Diesel worked hard at releasing a new storyline. Rumor has it that there will be two or three more.
No matter what happened, fans of the series might have mixed feelings about the trailer launched on December 11th. Paul Walker’s brothers Cody and Caleb are not seen, meaning that “Brian O’Connor” has officially retired from his car chasing shenanigans. Also unseen was “Han” (Sung Kang), a character killed off in Tokyo Drift, a stand-alone movie. This indicates a new storyline, moving it forward. The trailer shows “Hobbes” (Dwayne Johnson) incarcerated with “Deckard Shaw” (Jason Statham). Shaw will finally exact his revenge on the man that put him away. Also, we see the new villain played by Charlize Theron and newcomer to the family, Nathalie Emmanuel.
The bothersome part of the whole trailer is that Dom breaks his familial bond. Speculatively speaking, something had to break for Dom’s character. Suffering from amnesia, his wife “Letty” (Michelle Rodriguez) was picked up by Deckard’s brother, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) for his racing crew. Once reunited with Dom and the crew, she was still unable to remember her past, leading to complications in Furious 7.
Fans also know that with the advent of “Brian” (Paul Walker) taking care of his new family, that Dom no longer has his partner in crime. Throughout the series, although he had Letty with him, the bond forged with Brian was unbreakable. As to why Dom chooses to go against his family is anyone’s guess but fans are in for a ride. (No pun intended… alright, pun intended.)
The new film Fate of the Furious launches April 14th, 2017 and promises action! The only question is, will you forget about your family by abandoning it or will you be watching when it releases?
Until next time.
