Later this year Marvel will be releasing the third installment of the Thor franchise. This morning Marvel Studios gave us our first look at Thor: Ragnarok with the first official teaser trailer. Directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows), this visually stunning, gladiator, action packed, apocalyptic epic will be coming to theaters November 3.

The teaser opens with Thor being dangled in chains, seemingly being held captive. We then see our first glimpse of Hela (Cate Blanchette) just before she catches Mjolnir, crushing it. Hela then brings the apocalypse to Asgard, better known to Asgardians as Ragnarok.

Thor crash lands into another planet and is taken prisoner by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). We also see a quick glimpse of Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), the return of Heimdall (Idris Elba) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston). The trailer is filled with many Greek mythological inspired shots with stunning cinematography.

The teaser ends with Thor, with a freshly cut head of hair, walking into a packed arena where he dons his iconic helmet. He waits, charismatically, for his opponent when we see the raging return of Hulk, paying homage to “Planet Hulk”. Thor is beyond excited to see Hulk but the feeling doesn’t exactly seem mutual for Hulk. And the teaser ends with the two charging at each other in the middle of the arena.

Marvel has released a new poster for Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017.
