Ghost in the Shell Movie
It’s no secret that fans are on the fence when it comes to adaptations of beloved series. This is no different as Hollywood adapted films tend to come with flack.
Among the complaints about this film adaptation, are things like Scarlett Johansson is white and not culturally appropriate for the role. Perhaps the objection is that adapted Hollywood films… well, tend to be terrible. Furthermore, we aren’t likely to hear the amazing music of Yoko Kanno, a very prolific musician in the world of animated movies and series.
Just to hear her music, this is the theme song “Inner Universe” from the anime:
Regardless, this film has a cast consisting of Michael Pitt, Michael Wincott, Juliette Binoche, and Takeshi Kitano. The director Rupert Sanders is known for movies like Snow White and the Huntsman and Black Hole.
Set in 2030 Ghost in the Shell is a story taking place in a fictional city called Niihama, Niihama Prefecture. At this time, citizens are Cyborgs and have prosthetic bodies. Members of “Public Security Section 9” investigate crimes as a special operations unit consisting of former military officers and police detectives. “The Major” played by Johansson is part of this group.
How this adaptation will fare is anyone’s guess though, the trailer looks amazing!
