Last year Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios sealed a major deal that would allow Marvel to share and use Spider-Man in their films while the film rights would still belong to Sony. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live Marvel released the first official trailer for Sony Pictures & Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man made his debut in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe in this year’s Captain America: Civil War and Homecoming has been one of Marvel’s most anticipated films since. Directed by Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car), Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the first Spider-Man film in the Marvel’s MCU.
Judging by the trailer, Homecoming seems to be a coming of age story for Peter Parker as he is a student by day and a web-swinging, crime fighter by night. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, we see a glimpse of Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark as he seems to be mentoring Peter Parker as he tries to teach him how to balance being a potential Avenger and a student. After much speculation, we finally get to see Micheal Keaton’s Vulture. While many fans believe Marvel lacks strong and compelling villains, Micheal Keaton already seems to be one of their best. We also see a quick glimpse at Donald Glover’s (who has voiced, Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales in the past) character, which his identity has yet to be revealed.
