Directed by Josh Boone, 20th Century Fox has officially released the first trailer for X-Men: The New Mutants.

X-Men: The New Mutants is the next installment of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men series. Excluding this year’s standalone Logan, this installment is the first X-Men film since the First Class trilogy concluded with X-Men: Apocalypse.

The film’s concept is from Chris Claremont’s comic series, New Mutants. Written by Knate Lee and director Josh Boone, X-Men: The New Mutants supposedly draws from author Stephen King’s many works. And this horror-influenced trailer shows.

“Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”

Promising Some Scares & Thrills

The trailer opens with a voiceover of Dr. Cecilia Reyes played by Alice Braga (I Am Legend) as the camera slowly moves through a dark asylum hallway. It sets a horrifying tone right out of the gate.

We then see Mirage (Blu Hunt) strapped down to a chair and hooked up to a lie detector test as Dr. Reyes questions her – “Do you know what mutants are?”

We get a closer look at Mirage as Dr. Reyes draws blood from her arm.X-Men

Next, we see our first look at Illyana Rasputin, better known as Magik, (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch) as she sits on the floor in the middle of her room just drawing.

We then get quick glimpses of Sunspot (Henry Zaga) and Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams, Game of Thrones). Afterward, we see Cannonball (Charlie Heaton) in a laundry room that introduces the first scare of this haunting trailer.

The trailer goes into overdrive, revealing a number of shots and sequences that only further prove just how frightening and intense this film will be.

X-Men: The New Mutants will be coming to theaters on April 13, 2018.
