Youtube Red was introduced to YouTube users, in 2014, as an ad-free version of YouTube with exclusive content from some of the site’s most popular content creators, with a monthly subscription. YouTube Red features exclusive shows and films from users such as PewDiePie, Rooster Teeth, CollegeHumor and many more. Earlier this week at MIPCOM, YouTube Red announced that the subscription service will be launching three new exclusive shows from three of Hollywood’s greatest talents.
Created by Michele Morrow and Jesse Cox, Dan Harmon (Community, Rick and Morty) and Starburns Industries, will be producing a 6-episode esports scripted series that will be starring Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson of Game Grumps. This series will be following a new team of competitive gamers and their ups and downs of making it in esports. Sarah Carbiener and Erica Rosbe (Rick & Morty) will be writing and show-running the series. This series will be debuting in 2017.
None other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be delivering a Sci-Fi, thriller series, “Lifeline”. Johnson started his own YouTube channel earlier this year so it comes as no surprise that he will be getting his own Youtube Red series. He took to social media on Monday to deliver the news and a brief description of Lifeline. Lifeline will be directed by Sam and Niko of Corridor Digital. Dwayne Johnson, Seven Bucks Productions and Studio 71 will be partnering with YouTube Red to produce this time-traveling series in 2017.
Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) will be directing Impulse for Youtube Red, which is the third novel in the “Jumper” series written by Steven Gould. Doug Liman is the director that helmed “Jumper” in 2008 and he will be continuing to add to the universe with Impulse. Impulse will follow a 16 year old outcast who quickly learns that she is able to teleport. Production is set to begin by the end of 2016.
