Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced MLG Vegas, an esports and digital culture festival spanning over 3 days.
The event is going on between December 16th-18th and features the first leg of the North American Call of Duty World Championships 2017, and an Overwatch Invitational, both which feature a prize pool of $100,000. The MLG event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas. On top of that, an event called ‘End Game’, a special lifestyle event celebrating digital culture, will also take place during the three days at the same location.
To kick off the North American Regionals for the Call of Duty World Championships played in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, 12 teams will start in ‘pool play’. An additional 96 teams will be playing a double elimination tournament to fight for a spot on Championship Sunday for their cut of the $100,000 prize pool. 8 of the top 12 pool play teams will then be chosen based on the placing of the top NA teams from the CoD Championship. The remaining four will be chosen for spots in pools based on GameBattles tournament finishes. More info about the Call of Duty World League (CWL) will be cropping up in the next few weeks. All players will also be able to earn CWL Pro Points from this weekend’s events.
“The debut season of the CWL was a huge success thanks to our great fans around the world. We’re excited to begin the new competitive year live in Las Vegas, this is just the first step in what’s going to be a great season. We look forward to seeing everyone in Las Vegas.” – Rob Kostich, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Call of Duty, Activision
This weekend will also be the Overwatch Invitational. It’ll be an 8-team tournament and you’ll be able to watch it all with MLG’s EVE (Enhanced Viewing Experience by watching it on MLG.com). It’ll allow you to dive into stats, players, and teams while watching the action for the first time during the debut of MLG Overwatch.
In the middle of it all, End Game, an event celebrating digital culture, will be bringing thousands of fans together during one of the biggest celebrations in MLG’s history while featuring interactive experiences, surprise musical performances, and unique opportunities for all you content creators out there.
“Video games are a dominant force in pop culture and have as much mindshare with this audience as music, art, or movies. When we looked at other festivals, we saw a huge hole in their programming, and Vegas presented an opportunity for us to celebrate these content creators, esports pros, and digital influencers. To put it simply, if you’re neglecting esports at your events, you are missing out on a huge passion point for a highly-engaged and creative audience.” -Sundance DiGiovanni, VP of Brands and Content for Major League Gaming.
