Grimoire: Manastorm is an upcoming multiplayer wizard FPS that blends unique spells with a class-based shooter. Indie developer Omniconnection, a collection of game enthusiasts and industry veterans, leads the production of the game. After hitting some rough patches, Grimoire: Manastorm is gearing in up for the maiden voyage on October 26th, 2017. Most important the game is free to play, and after spending a few hours I was able to develop some first impressions.
Grimoire: Manastorm is a fast paced MOBA style FPS. The game has a steep learning curve and heavily rewards skill. Each class has two basic spells and a short range dash. The player then has class unique and class ultimate spells, which range from summoning a boulder to a magma bomb. To round out each kit players also select a utility spell and a mobility spell.
The game so far is focused on the online capture the flag gameplay. Each map has five objectives, two for each side and a neutral object in the center. Protect your locations and capture the enemy locations, all while killing opposing wizards. In multiplayer players will earn experience that can be spent upgrading spells.
First of all, this game is not the 4k next gen kind of experience. The graphics bare a resemblance to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which isn’t bad by any means. The Animations, however, give this game personality. From casting a basic lightning bolt to summoning a meteor shower Grimoire: Manastorm provides a satisfying display for the spells you use.
Overall there is a lot of fun mechanics and gameplay available for players in Grimoire: Manastorm. The fast-paced action and wide array of spells will only improve as the game is released. The game will be available for free on Steam on October 26 and is currently in early access to the public.
