‘Overwatch: First Strike’ graphic novel was due for release this month – November, the developer recently announced the graphic novel will be cancelled.
“I wanted to let you know that we have decided to cancel the release of the Overwatch: First Strike graphic novel.” – Blizzard
In a blog post by Michael Chu, he explains Blizzard has “ultimately decided to take the story in a different direction.”
Since Overwatch: First Strike’s early stages, the graphic novel was in a different universe than we what we have in front of us now because of this the novel is on hold until further notice. Michael Chu further explains, “while the core of this story remains, we have changed and expanded upon how we see the events that took place during the first days of Overwatch.”
Originally, Overwatch: First Strike was titled as “Overwatch: Omni Crisis”. First Strike is written by Micky Neilson, penciled and inked by Ludo Lullabi, and colored by Ryan Odagawa, we’re sad to hear about the cancellation but Overwatch is on a fast track of no surprises.
The story of Gabriel Reyes, Jack Morrison, Ana Amari, Reinhardt Wilhelm, Torbjörn Lindholm will be reignited in the future but for now the cancellation will remain. Although we were looking forward to Overwatch: First Strike graphic novel, Blizzard has yet to let us down as Overwatch has been one of the highest selling FPS games this year.
For this weekend, Overwatch is free, but make sure you catch the action by Nov. 21st!
