No this is not about Canadian cosplay. The company that produced This War of Mine, a classic survival strategy game, have created a new game entitled Frostpunk. 11 Bit Studios, the developers behind the game, is known for apocalyptic settings make no exception for this title. Rather than going with a futuristic or alien theme, Frostpunk takes place in an alternate timeline that has no electricity. The reason? Humanity is plunged into an ice age and it’s up to the player, some steam power, and questionable ethics to secure the future of mankind. 11 Bit Studios hasn’t spoiled much about the game but did show some of the gameplay in the latest trailer.
A Moral Dilemma
There are a few apparent parallels between Frostpunk and This War of Mine. The premise of both games is rooted in survival that will prompt players to make choices that will affect a characters’ chance of survival. Progressing through the game, players will be able to upgrade and unlock more capabilities to aid their chances to live. Before getting an ice pick ready, there is another layer to this game. 11 Bit Studios strive to make their games feel impactful to the players. Frostpunk appears to be more about the journey on why people justify their actions to be morally acceptable. By creating genuine dilemmas that must be answered by the player, Frostpunk tests a players morality.
The release date for Frostpunk is by the end on 2017 and information can be found on their official website.
