Admittedly, my morning got off to a bit of a rocky start as far as video games were concerned, but thanks to the cosmic gods of gaming, my day has been saved. Supergiant Games announced via Twitter and their blog that they’d begun work on a new title: Pyre.
For those of you who may not know, Supergiant Games is an independent game developer based out of California with two spectacular titles under their belt already. The studio is responsible for bringing Bastion (2011) and Transistor (2014) to life – both of which were nearly universally praised for their beautiful soundtracks, and their visually exciting, and immersive gaming experiences.
Pyre’s story will follow a “down on their luck” exile as they progress through a secretive competition known only as “The Rites” – through which, if worthy, they can return home absolved of their past wrongdoings. The game promises to introduce a cast of colorful characters and showcase a rich atmospheric experience, along with distinctive gameplay.
Supergiant Games will be showing off Pyre at PAX East later this week. They announced a 2017 release date for the game which will simultaneously launch on both Steam and PS4.
