I have played Magic: The Gathering (MTG) for a few years now, and naturally I would come across some particular cards I would deem as my “favorite.” Many card game players choose their favorites for a variety of reasons. Some players like cards because they are pivotal for certain deck strategies. Some fond memories occur in significant victories when using specific cards. Others simply love a card for something as straightforward as its artwork.
Below are 10 of my favorite cards at the time of me writing this list, in no particular order of significance:
Green is my favorite color in general and in the game of MTG. Considering that a natural weakness of the color is creatures who fly, Plummet sure comes in handy from the Sideboard to deal with anything in the air.
See a threat in the air? Send it plummeting – such a good card!
2. Eidolon of Blossoms
Here is the thing about me when it comes to card games – I love drawing extra cards in a turn. So when you build a deck around Eidolon of Blossoms, something that thrives with my favorite type of card in the game known as enchantments, expect a lot of free card draws during a turn.
Let’s just say I won a lot of games and tournaments with my “Here Comes the Bloom!” deck when this card existed in Standard. A lot of games.
3. Kiora, the Crashing Wave
There was a point where I considered Kiora my favorite Planeswalker in the MTG universe. Though Nissa currently holds that distinction, this particular Kiora card will always be special to me. It was the first Planeswalker card I won during a “win a (booster box)” tournament. My friend even bought me a full set of this card for my birthday.
4. Kor Spiritdancer
Remember – I love drawing extra cards in a turn. In my Bogles deck, Kor Spiritdancer is an essential aspect for sifting through my deck to juice up my creatures.
Also, Kor Spiritdancer becomes quite the powerhouse if you decide to augment her with Auras.
5. Elspeth, Sun’s Champion
Versatile and devastating, Elspeth tends to be a mighty force in the game with most of her incarnations.
This particular Elspeth saw decks splashing in her color just to use her. Needless to say, this was a superb card on many levels.
Moral of the story – don’t knock on cards until you see their potential in action.
7. Elvish Mystic
Best one-drop card in the game.
Nothing else needs to be said.
8. Linvala, the Preserver
Who doesn’t like a lovely angel?
9. Resolute Archangel
So imagine being down to a single point of life left. You have no cards left in your hand. The situation looks bleak. However, you suddenly “topdeck” Resolute Archangel.
Complete reversal. You restore your life to the default total and then go on to win the match, and then the rest of the tournament. Well, this is what happened to me. Therefore, Resolute Archangel will always be a champion card to me.
10. Oath of Nissa
Pictures my favorite Planeswalker, Nissa, in the artwork.
So these cards were my top 10 favorites. Obviously, your own list will be very different. But this is the cool part of the game. With so much variety out there, someone is bound to come up with a unique, interesting list of their most beloved cards.
