The Playstation 4 and Xbox One are both nearly three years old and are no longer considered “next generation” consoles, but current. In a bungie.net post, Bungie addressed the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as Legacy Consoles and stated that Destiny will no longer receive any more major updates and events will no longer be available on these consoles.
Beginning in August 2016 Destiny will be leaving Legacy Consoles behind and very little content will still be available. Heroic Missions and Strikes, Crucible Challenges, Raids and Boss Challenges, Prison of Elders, Challenge of Elders, Armsday Orders, Test Weapons and Xûr, Agent of the Nine will all still be available on Legacy consoles. Unfortunately, Trials of Osiris, The Iron Banner and Live Events will no longer be available.
Bungie is getting ready to release the newest Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron, but legacy players will have to upgrade to a current generation console in order play it because it will also not be available on PS3 or Xbox 360.
Destiny: Rise of Iron will be available on Playstation 4 and Xbox One September 20, 2016.
