Every single gamer I know was excited to see Overwatch’s reveal trailer at Blizzcon ’14, but none of those that were lucky enough to make it into the closed beta were quite prepared for the kind of experience we’d have. During the testing, we were privileged to get a first-hand look at the game’s colorful characters, beautiful maps – and perhaps more importantly, a lovingly crafted game with an awesome mission to create an FPS experience that’s both good, and fun.

Though there were some dark times for the beta testers, like when Bastion or Torbj√∂rn could single-handedly hold a whole team off of a checkpoint, or an infamous butt-themed controversy would plague our news feeds for weeks, it should be noted as a credit to the development team that players never seemed to burn out on the game- and Blizzard’s attention to detail in aesthetic and balance bode well for the future of Overwatch.

RIP going 5 Bastions and Lucio defending Volskaya.

Despite the fact that the closed beta was such an exclusive club, it never felt empty. We met people, formed a community, and enjoyed the crap out of this badass team-based shooter – so much so that my thoughts on the closed beta ended up reading more like a love letter than a legitimate recap of events. So much so that I’m going to have a hard time waiting for May 5th when the Beta comes back.

In the meantime, here are a few of the EloTalk team’s coolest plays to get you hyped for the early access beta and the official release:

This is why Zarya is the strongest woman in the world. Look at that taunt!

The most gratifying feeling for a Mei player.

Zarya and Soldier team kill! Aimbot FTW!

The folks here at Elotalk are all extremely excited for launch day and the growth of the community, but we’ll never forget all folks we met, and the fun we had during the closed beta. Thanks again for such a wonderful experience!
