The 35th Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter with the Producers was streamed on Twitch and YouTube. They spent a lot of time running down Stormblood before it’s June release and answering a lot of the communities questions that were asked on the Final Fantasy Forums.
First off, there was a lot of talk about the main key characters that will be showing up in Stormblood and the roles they’ll be playing in your adventures in Ala Mhigo and Doma. We were given descriptions about a lot of those characters, some familiar faces such as Raubahn, who will supposedly be playing a big role in Stormblood along with his son Pipin and Yugiri, who we saw for parts of Heavensward as she helped the Warrior of Light clear their names from the coup that besmirched them earlier.
There’s also a look at the new faces of Stormblood, and the roles they’ll be playing in the expansion. Zenos yae Galvus, is one of the new characters, and the leader of the 12th Legion and the Crowned Prince of the Garlean Empire, that currently occupies Doma and will most likely be our main Garlean adversary. Lyse, who was revealed to us as a part of the 3.56 storyline as Yda’s sister, who she has been masquerading as to keep her memory going and do some good for the world, is also going to play a large role in the rebellions and will most likely be the main person we are helping to restore Ala Mhigo and Doma.
This was then followed up by a lengthy Q/A Session with handpicked community questions about the upcoming expansion, detailing what will be seeing in the new expansion, and further details about what has been announced already.
Multiple questions were asked about housing and how the new moving system will work. To move houses, you’ll have to go to the placard like you were going to buy it, and if you already have a house, then you’ll get a pop-up box just asking to move that one instead of paying a sum of gil. The producers have also said that when you’re moving houses, if you move to a house that is the same size, everything should be transferred over no problem, however if you opt to upgrade or downgrade your house, all your items will be thrown into a “warehouse” for later use once you move in.
As for gear for the new jobs, the producers stated that all the Primals will get weapons for the new jobs, as well as the Alexander raids, but The Binding Coils and Zodiac/Anima Relic weapons will not have weapons and gear for Red Mage or Samurai. As for the Job Specific Artifact Gear, it will be given to you when you reach your level 70 job quest (just like the ARR Artifact Gear was).
As for mounts, there are a lot of changes coming to ground mounts. The biggest thing is that they are making them faster. Their speed is getting doubled, although you have to unlock it by beating the 3.0 main story. There will also be a way to make them go even faster supposedly but no details were released about that other than you’ll have to unlock it per region. As for flying mounts, not a lot is changing other than they all can be used underwater. There’s also a few more special underwater mounts planned other than the one you get for ordering the collector’s edition. The Falcon, an underwater ship, and a tiger supposedly.
The last big thing that was announced at the live letter was the Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood Benchmark that was released. The benchmark was announced with a trailer to show you a glimpse of what you’ll be seeing. It allows you to enter character creator and see some of the new hairstyles and what’s changed in there, as well as taking you through some of the zones with multiple NPCs participating in big battles, showing off swimming and the underwater gathering, or getting a glimpse at new abilities and the Susano fight. It’s available for download right now so you can also see how your set up will handle the game. PS4 Pro users are also going to get options when it comes to graphics, there’s just two however, but you can choose to either have good performance or good graphics according to the producers.
This is it for the biggest announcements from the live letter for Final Fantasy 14, more details and smaller announcements are in the live letter translation over on the Final Fantasy forums as well as the download for the benchmark being available on the Final Fantasy Stormblood page.
