Gamescom 2017 is in full swing and with it comes with a sneak peek from Microsoft Studios. Last year Bill Gates hinted at the prospects of a new Age of Empires (AoE) game. Not only did he deliver one empire, but at least four new Age of Empires games are currently in production.

Relic Entertainment’s ‘Age of Empires IV’

The last installment for Age of Empire games debuted in 2005 following the grand daddy of Real Time Strategy (RTS) games AoE: II in 1999. These games, along with AoE: III, were produced by Ensemble Studios. After splitting ways in 2009, Microsoft had to find a new developer to work on the AoE series. This is where Relic Entertainment steps in. This developer is known for Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. They get a crack at a historical RTS with one of the most successful franchises in the business. While fans didn’t get to see any game play or hints of what’s to come, they did get an announcement trailer to know that it is in production.

‘Age of Empires: Definitive Edition’ series

The second title announced is a remaster. AoE: Definitive Edition promises a 4K capture of the first Age of Empires. Along with the new artwork, the game will feature brand new narrators, sound effects, and an updated interface. One of the most impressive changes is the updated animations to characters and buildings. Let’s keep our fingers are crossed that the game keeps Wololo!

The game will be released exclusively for Windows 10 on October 19th. Till then check out the gameplay and the stunning graphics in the Gamescom 2017 trailer below.

If the original Age of Empires isn’t your favorite, there’s good news. Microsoft plans on giving the rest of the series a 4k update.
