On October 20th 2016 Nintendo announced its new console, Nintendo Switch formerly known as Nintendo NX. Coming in March 2017.

Within the three and a half minute YouTube video, Nintendo showcases their new console, Nintendo Switch. They’ve showed everything from playing the console in the privacy of your own home, with friends at a party and at an esports tournament?

What we know so far about the Nintendo Switch

Mobility & Versatility

From playing at home with friends on the nice big ole’ flat screen to in the car against your best friends, it’s a small-ish console with a WiiU-like controller called the “Joy-Con” controller – all which sits inside of the console’s dock.  The “Joy-Con” controller can detach from the system itself and you are able to continue your gaming on the go. It also seems like you’re able to attach it to places on the go such as in the car? It looks great no matter what.

Modular Controller, “The Joy-Con”

Demonstrated within the video the Joy-Con has two halves, the Joy-Con (Right) and the Joy-Con (Left), both seem to slide into the sides of the switch console.  These Joy-Con controllers seem to be able to slide up and can even be wireless. Alternatively, the Nintendo Switch gives an alternative option the “Joy-Con Grip” in which the separate pieces can slot into for a more “traditional” controller than one similar to the Wii U.nintendo_switch_2

Nintendo Switch will apparently be using cartridges

Welcome back to old-school game cartridges for this next mobile console. Despite being phased out decades ago for home consoles as optical media began to offer even more greater storage capacity than cartridges, Nintendo believes cartridges are it’s best choice for Switch. From the increased fluctuation of competition between flash storage manufacturers, flash storage has become faster and cheaper than ever before – plus Nintendo uses this kind of storage for their handheld systems such as the 3DS. Some advantages of cartridges than optical are: scratch resistant, faster data loads, and are even harder to pirate.

NVIDIA will be behind the consoles performance

NVIDIA confirmed in a blog post they will be the brains behind the power for the Nintendo Switch system using a custom “Tegra processor”. We know how NVIDIA likes to do things, always at 100%. This is going to be huge for Nintendo. Times are certainly changing for the mobile gaming world.

Is Nintendo hinting at entering Esports?

– Is Nintendo trying to break into the Esports scene and the Nintendo Switch will be it’s savior? Maybe they’re just showing that the console is just that dynamic and maybe even that powerful.
