While the excitement and chatter about Pokémon GO fades, excitement for Pokémon Sun & Moon is full steam ahead. On October 18th, a demo was released that showcased a lot of the new and exciting features in both titles. It’s delightfully fun, short, and a good example of what’s to come (and not to mention, the entire PokeDex was datamined). You can download it yourself now through the Nintendo eShop on your 3DS.
Some of the larger features of the game were covered in an earlier article, but there are some immediate quality of life things I noticed too. Easily checking on amounts of buffs and debuffs during fights makes managing those numbers easier than ever before. Indicators of resistances and weaknesses mid fight also make battle quicker and smarter. Overall, the available information during combat has taken leaps and bounds.
Another small change that makes a difference is adding a button prompt to move into new zones. The days of accidentally running into shops or previous screens are a thing of the past! It is also a relief to see that animations in cutscenes have also been smoothed out. They now feel natural and are cut down to save time, making replays and tutorial instances far more bearable.
Upon booting the demo, you are given a level 36 Greninja, the evolution of Frogadier. Right from the start, you encounter the dedicated evil organization of the game: Team Skull. Fighting and catching Pokémon are both available to check out as well as a short story. Once you reach the end things aren’t over however. You can continue from a save, and play to your heart’s content!
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon is set for release on November 18, 2016. Pre-orders are available now on the Nintendo eShop at $40 for a digital copy. As of now, there are no collectors editions available, but strategy guides will be.
